LLWB held its annual event on April 10 and 11, 2018 entitled "Governance and Disruption: Women Leaders and Game Changers". The event included an annual conference, training workshops and a fundraising gala dinner. The annual event was sponsored by Alfa Telecom, LIA insurance and Allianz SNA.
LLWB Annual Event: Conference
The LLWB annual conference took place on April 10, 2018 at the Suliman Olayan School of Business in partnership with the Knowledge is Power (KIP) Project and The Rami Makhzoumi Initiative for Corporate Governance. The conference involved two panels, the first tackling the topic of women on boards, during which experts and partners were invited to share the work that is being implemented in Lebanon around this topic as well as to share their experiences and expertise with the audience around the topic. Panelists included Ms. Susan Maybud, ILO Senior Gender Specialist, Mr. Marcel Rached, Investment Professional at International Finance Corporation (IFC), Mr. Yasser Akkaoui, Founder of KConcept Holding and Mr. Wael Kishli, LLWB representative and President of IE Alumni Association in Lebanon. The panel was moderated by Dr. Fida Afiouni, Associate Professor at the Olayan School of Business.
The second panel shed the light on women who made disruptions within their industries, who shared their experiences and the challenges faced throughout their careers. Panelists included Ms. Priscilla Sharuk, Cofounder and COO at Myki, Ms. Yusr Sabra, Cofounder and Managing Partner at Tiqany and Wakkilni and Ms. Loulou Khazen Baz, Founder and CEO at Nabbesh.com. The panel was moderated by Dr. Bijan Azad, Associate Professor at the Olayan School of Business.
The conference started with opening remarks shared by LLWB President Ms. Asmahan Zein followed by few words shared by our guest and keynote speakers dincluding Mr. Lars Johansen, Regional Office Program Unit Manager at the ILO, Dr. Samah Karaki, Co-founder of Social Brain Institute, Ms. Elissar Farah Antonios, CEO at Citigroup. The conference closing remarks were shared by Dr. Charlotte Karam, Associate Dean of Programs at the Olayan School of Business.
LLWB Annual Event: Training Workshops
As part of its annual event, LLWB organized two half-day training workshops on April 11, 2018 at Hotel Monroe. The first workshop revolved around Women in Governance, during which Ms. Rita Rizk, Managing Director at Tamayyaz provided participants with an introductory session around the concepts of good governance and the importance of having women on boards.
The second workshop was facilitated by Dr. Samah Karaki, and revolved around "Girls in STEM". The training used brain based knowledge to dismantle the stereotypes that cause girls to believe they “don’t belong” in STEM and aimed to develop a growth mindset to catalyze perception shifts. The trainings were attended by LLWB members and partners.
LLWB Annual Event: Fundraising Dinner
LLWB held its fundraising dinner on April 10, 2018 at B by Elefteriadis. Partners, donors, members and stakeholders from the private, public and academic sectors attended the event to support the work of LLWB.
