GGIT is an initiative under the UNICEF funded program “Initiation to ICT and Technology for Girls and Marginalised Youth”, and is led by the Lebanese League for Women in Business (LLWB), in partnership with four other NGOs. These NGOs include the Arab Women in Computing (ArabWIC), Women in Technology (WIT), Women in Engineering (WIE) and Digital Opportunity trust (DOT).
The main objective of GGIT is to encourage girls from public and private schools and from marginalized communities to experience the capabilities of IT (Information Technology) and STEM subjects (Science Technology Engineering, and Mathematic) in order to select them as career choices.
Students will be given the opportunity to experience a full day of technology related hands-on activities and will be exposed to twenty or more practical workshops and technical break-out sessions to select from and gain technical hands-on skills. Girls are also given the opportunity to network and select mentors from the rich membership of the five partners NGOs.
Through GGIT, LLWB aims to promote essential technology skills for today’s global economy; improve girls’ self-esteem through learning by using hands-on activities; and to bridge the gender gap in technology-related fields by bringing awareness to girl students on the importance of ICT and the opportunities it can offer. Our aim is also to break the cultural stereotypes of women in STEAM by exposing young girls to inspiring role models and success stories from Lebanon.
