LLWB participated in a south Roundtable virtual meeting with the UN Women.

A brainstorming session was held on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021, under the heading “EUROPEAN UNION SECTOR SPECIFIC GENDER ANALYSIS,” with the aim of identifying specific themes and sub-topics of focus for EU prioritization and action through a broad consultation process with key civil society actors and women across the country.

LLWB, represented by its executive director Ms. Nisreen Deeb, has shared insights, experiences and brainstorming ideas about UN women action plans in the South region. In addition to LLWB’s programs and ongoing projects in line of supporting women in Lebanon.

Ms. Nisreen further highlighted three primary aspects as Basic Human Rights: freedom from all forms of violence, empowerment of women and girls, and women’s participation and leadership in politics and public life, emphasizing on the gender diversity strategy that LLWB follows and elaborates.

In fact, The UN Women is conscious of the fact that the ways in which gender issues affect women in Lebanon differ based on intersectional identities.

And In order to ensure voices from areas all over Lebanon are included as part of the EU’s gender action plan, UN Women organized roundtables with specific focus on how the GAP III priority issues affect women in North, South, Mount Lebanon and Bekaa governorates specifically.

The Europe Union Delegation to Lebanon has partnered with UN Women and Triangle, a Lebanese think tank and research firm, to assist in contextualizing the EU’s global action plan on promoting gender equality to Lebanon.

This will inform the EU’s country-level implementation plan as per the 2021-2027 global Gender Action Plan III (GAP) priorities.
